CLAY SCULPTURE: Building & Integrating the Surface
Workshop Outline:
In this workshop, students will use simple forms to explore this process of sculpting with clay. Starting with soft responsive clay, the form is built, cut apart, hollowed out, and then put back together. Students will then focus on integrating the surface to the form through painting on the raw clay with coloured slips, sgraffito, carving, sprigging, and any other style of surface work they wish. Finally, using a colemanite wash, the piece is ready for a single-firing at a later date.
